Çukurova Bölgesi, önemli bir turunçgil üretim alanı olması yanında turunçgil ihracatı içinde de önemli bir paya sahiptir.
Adana ilinde üretim yapan işletmelerde üretim turunçgillerin hemen hemen tamamı pazara arz edilmektedir. Toplam turunçgillerde pazara arz oranı %98 seviyesindedir. Pazara sunulmayan ürünler taze olarak tüketilmekte ya da depolanarak aile tüketimi için ayrılmaktadır. Uzun süre dayanabilmesi nedeniyle limon en çok tercih edilen ürün durumundadır. Turunçgillerden altıntop (greyfurt) ülkemiz için çok yaygın olmadığı için tüketimi de azdır. Genelde ihracat ürünü olarak kullanılmaktadır. Adana ilinden 2003 yılında yapılan toplam 85.307.691 kg ihraç turunçgil ürününün %24,8‘i altıntop, %26,48’i limon, %17,11’i mandarin ve %5,9’i portakal olmuştur. Turunçgiller Adana’nın kıyı ve ova ilçelerinde uzun yıllardan beri yetiştiriciliği yapılan, alan ve üretim bakımından diğer meyve türlerine oranla birinci sırayı alan meyve grubudur. Türkiye’nin turunçgil üretiminin en önemli bölümü Akdeniz (%88) ve Ege (%12) bölgelerinden karşılanmaktadır. Çukurova bölgesinde son yıllarda özellikle tarla tarımında yaşanan olumsuzluklar açısından konuya bakıldığında turunçgil tarımının geleceğinin iyi irdelenmesi gereği ortaya çıkmaktadır. 1998 yılında turunçgil açısından gerek yurtiçi ve gerekse yurtdışı pazarlarda ortaya çıkan olumsuzluklar 1999 yılında yeni tesislerin kurulmasını engellediği görülmüştür. 2000 ve 2001 yıllarındaki iyi fiyat sonucu yeni tesisler artmaya başlamış ancak 2003 ve 2004 yılındaki pazar darlığından dolayı yeni tesis oluşumu duraksama safhasına girmiştir.
